What to Expect When Expecting

We created two new sites last week, what to expect when expecting and while pregnant. Both have the look and feel of our chewable prenatal vitamin site, but are just slightly different in their text and target. Obviously the what to expect site is a little broader in its approach to helping pregnant mothers make the right nutritional choices; where the while pregnant page is a bit more personal. If you get a chance, check them out and let us know what you think.

A Little About Bloom'en Nutrition

Bloomen nutrition, made by a mom in need who knows nutrition
I’ve spent my entire career in the Nutrition and Health Industry helping manufacturers make quality dietary supplements but when I became pregnant I realized just how hard it is to swallow vitamins and how guilty you feel when you can’t. So, I consulted the medical and nutrition experts, gathered the best ingredients in the nutrition world and created an easy, yummy way to get the EPA/DHA, Folic Acid, D3 and Lutein every mom needs to have a strong and healthy pregnancy. Say good by to guilt and hello yummy! Welcome to the Bloom’en World of Nutrition!

A delicious way to get the nutrients that every doctor recommends
Bloom’en Nutrition Blossoms are the delicious, nutritious way to assure that you and your baby are getting the DHA and EPA omega-3 oils that are so important for cognitive development. We use the highest quality source of essential fatty acids which have gone through multiple filtration steps and have been specially processed to ensure that you experience only the tasty, natural flavors of the chew.

Each delicious bloom also provides 200 mcg of folic acid, a dose that has been recommended by multiple health and government organizations for any women who may be planning a family. In addition, each bloom gives you vitamin D for healthy bones for your and your baby, plus Lutein, a powerful antioxidant found in breast milk that supports healthy heart function, vision and skin elasticity, which we are all concerned about as our belly shrinks after the baby. And unlike other chewable products, Blossoms are cold-processed to ensure maximum effectiveness of its vital ingredients.

Mild and delicious
From personal experience, I know that anything with a strong flavor can be overwhelming during those first few months. With the help of my other friends who were also expecting, we choose the mild natural flavors that are delicious and easy to eat at any time.

No more guilt
When I was pregnant it seemed like everybody in my life from my doctor to my friends were telling me to take my fish oils and prenatal vitamins, but with morning sickness it was a daily battle. I felt so guilty and the pressure was overwhelming. Gagging down pills and burping up fish all but destroyed most of my mornings. I knew that there must be a better way. Blossoms are that better way…..

Enjoy Blossoms with confidence. Contains no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. Blossoms contain no chemical solvents, yeast, wheat, corn, milk, egg, nuts or gluten.

Choosing the Right Prenatal Vitamin When Pregnant

For most women, pregnancy can be very overwhelming. Not only is your body going through tremendous change, but now you must face a multitude of new decisions and wade through the overwhelming pressure that society places on expecting mothers. One of those critical decisions is how to ensure that the growing baby will get the nutrients that it needs to be born healthy; and by extension, which prenatal vitamins to take.

For many women, choosing a prenatal is simply filling the prescription that their doctor gave them, but for those that take the time looking at the various types of prenatal vitamins available, the choices can be intimidating. So the question remains, how do you choose and what do you look for.

In choosing a prenatal vitamin, the first thing that you need to look for is the folic acid content of the product. The Centers for Disease Control recommends that all women of child bearing age take at least 200 micrograms of folic acid every day. For expecting mothers, those numbers go up. Fortunately, higher potency prentals can provide up to 1000 micrograms of folate in the form of folic acid. In addition to folic acid, your prenatal vitamin should contain vitamin D, biotin and associated B vitamins as well as calcium for both mom and baby.

When making your selection, take some time to look at the label, and make an effort to choose a quality product. You don’t need to fill a prescription to take a prenatal vitamin and there are many high quality products on the drugstore shelf. Beware however, that in the vitamin industry you get what you pay for. Avoid spending money on vitamins that are extremely inexpensive. Often their dosage levels of nutrients are sub-par and there have been instances where the actual pills don’t have as much folic acid, vitamin D or calcium as is listed on the label. Your best bet in choosing a prenatal is to choose a vitamin made by a company that specializes in either prenatals or women’s health.

If you have trouble swallowing pills, alternative dosage forms such as liquids or chews are available as well. It all depends on what you can tolerate during morning sickness and what best suits your needs as you grow this new life.
