Chewable Prenatal Vitamins Blog

We are now in the process of moving our blog on chewable prenatal vitamins over to our main site at Bloom'en Nutrition. The prenatal vitamin site which can be reached through Prenatal Vitamin .net as well as bloomennutrition.com now also houses the blog on pregnancy topics such as nutrition, what to do and what to avoid while pregnant as well as general business discussions around vitamins.

Our primary blog at bloomennutrition.org will continue for the time being, with updates to this site focusing more on the business aspects of running a start up nutrition business.

Post Pregnancy Weight

In looking a NutraIngredients this morning I came across an interesting article that links probiotics to post pregnancy weight. The study is very preliminar and their are a lot of questions around the overall impact that probiotics have on pregnancy outcomes, but the data is very interesting; especially when expecting mothers are worried about pregnancy weight and more specifically post pregnancy weight loss.

Here is the link to the article
on study that looked at two different strains of probiotic taken during pregnancy and their post-pregnancy weight impact.

What to Expect With a Little More Vitamin D

This morning I was reading an update on a recent study that links low serum vitamin D with an increased incidence of bacterial vaginosis, which is a relatively common concern for women.

The study indicates that In a study with 469 women participating in a pregnancy cohort study, vitamin D levels below 20 nmol/L were associated with a 34 per cent increase in the prevalence of bacterial vaginosis compared to women with vitamin D levels over 80 nmol/L.
Which basically means that low levels (25-30 is considered normal) that in the study group, there was a 34% increased likelyhood of having the vaginosis. I don't know about you, but I expect that many expecting mothers should be taking adequate vitamin D.

What to Expect When Expecting

We created two new sites last week, what to expect when expecting and while pregnant. Both have the look and feel of our chewable prenatal vitamin site, but are just slightly different in their text and target. Obviously the what to expect site is a little broader in its approach to helping pregnant mothers make the right nutritional choices; where the while pregnant page is a bit more personal. If you get a chance, check them out and let us know what you think.

Getting Chewable Prental Vitamin on the Map, or at Least Google

I searched on google for the term chewable prenatal vitamin this afternoon as I commonly do. Actually, I typically search for prenatal vitamin, best prenatal vitamin, bloomen nutrition, chewable prenatal and while pregnant. Today, I was amazed that Bloom’en is mentioned or linked three times on the first page of Google for the search term chewable prenatal vitamin.

How great is that? On the first page, there are links to BloomenNutrition.com, Chewable Prenatal Vitamin.com as well as the Bloomen chewable prenatal vitamin blog. I can’t tell you how excited I am that our search engine optimization endeavors are working to get our chews noticed. Yeah!

Currently we are working with a number of bloggers to host givaways for the product. Project Nursery is proving to be the most notable.

Our little chewable prental vitamin business is finally starting to take off. Now we just need employees, more sales, a bit of capital, and help.

This Weekend Was a Great Trade Show for Mom’s to Be

We exhibited our chewable prenatal vitamin this weekend at the Natural Products Expo West  trade show this weekend and it was fantastic.   There were so many different exhibitors that it could literally make your head spin.  Every product in the natural market was on display; with products ranging from organic baby stuffed animals to a really yummy ice cream stuffed rice crispy square.  Okay, I am not sure why rice crispies popped up at a natural food and vitamin show, but boy they were good.  On the mom side, there were a number of exhibitors that were selling chemical-free bottles, baby blankets and onsies made from organic cotton, as well as anything and everything organic and/or vegan…not that I am a vegan, but it is nice to see what is available.

A tremendous number of people stopped at our Bloom’en Nutrition Chewable Prenatal Vitamin Booth to take a sample of our citrus ginger flavored chews and hear a little bit about our company.  We had some great discussions with potential and were the belle of the ball for many of the expecting mothers as well as those that were still breastfeeding.

This show was a great learning experience as I have never worked on the retail side.  I learned a great deal about the retail distribution side of this industry, which is how many of the vitamin retailers buy and stock products.

As I said, it was a great learning experience, but very taxing as well.  I am tired from the show and my feet hurt from standing, but it is now time to press on.  The next step is to follow up with all of my new contacts and get these great tasting chewable prenatal vitamins into a store near you.

Our First Day of Natural Products Expo – Chewable Prenatal Vitamins are On the Map

Today is the opening of the world’s largest natural product, food and vitamin expo “Natural Products Expo West.” In fact, it opens in about an hour. Happily our booth for the Bloom’en Nutrition Chewable Prenatal Vitamins has been built and is ready for the show. It turned out beautifully given the resources that we had available. I have uploaded few pictures of the booth with Michelle and Paul, a couple of our partners on this project. The show starts in an hour so it is literally D day for my company.

Preparing for the show has been a fantastic amount of work. It is incredible how much trade show furniture you can actually get at an Ikea store. In fact, most of our booth, aside from the printed screens can be found in the office and bedroom displays at your local Ikea maze.

As I said, the show opens in an hour, so the next step is to start talking, shaking hands and trying to meet every natural products buyer there is in this industry. Even if they already have a chewable prenatal, I still want to meet them and show them how all natural Bloom’en Nutrition prenatals are better. It is going to be a long weekend, but if things go well this week, Bloom’en may be coming to natural and organic food store near you.

Our schedule this week is that our distribution partners will be working the show today, I will be working the show tomorrow and Sunday. If you happen to be at Expo, please stop by and say hi. I would love to meet you.

A Little About Bloom'en Nutrition

Bloomen nutrition, made by a mom in need who knows nutrition
I’ve spent my entire career in the Nutrition and Health Industry helping manufacturers make quality dietary supplements but when I became pregnant I realized just how hard it is to swallow vitamins and how guilty you feel when you can’t. So, I consulted the medical and nutrition experts, gathered the best ingredients in the nutrition world and created an easy, yummy way to get the EPA/DHA, Folic Acid, D3 and Lutein every mom needs to have a strong and healthy pregnancy. Say good by to guilt and hello yummy! Welcome to the Bloom’en World of Nutrition!

A delicious way to get the nutrients that every doctor recommends
Bloom’en Nutrition Blossoms are the delicious, nutritious way to assure that you and your baby are getting the DHA and EPA omega-3 oils that are so important for cognitive development. We use the highest quality source of essential fatty acids which have gone through multiple filtration steps and have been specially processed to ensure that you experience only the tasty, natural flavors of the chew.

Each delicious bloom also provides 200 mcg of folic acid, a dose that has been recommended by multiple health and government organizations for any women who may be planning a family. In addition, each bloom gives you vitamin D for healthy bones for your and your baby, plus Lutein, a powerful antioxidant found in breast milk that supports healthy heart function, vision and skin elasticity, which we are all concerned about as our belly shrinks after the baby. And unlike other chewable products, Blossoms are cold-processed to ensure maximum effectiveness of its vital ingredients.

Mild and delicious
From personal experience, I know that anything with a strong flavor can be overwhelming during those first few months. With the help of my other friends who were also expecting, we choose the mild natural flavors that are delicious and easy to eat at any time.

No more guilt
When I was pregnant it seemed like everybody in my life from my doctor to my friends were telling me to take my fish oils and prenatal vitamins, but with morning sickness it was a daily battle. I felt so guilty and the pressure was overwhelming. Gagging down pills and burping up fish all but destroyed most of my mornings. I knew that there must be a better way. Blossoms are that better way…..

Enjoy Blossoms with confidence. Contains no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. Blossoms contain no chemical solvents, yeast, wheat, corn, milk, egg, nuts or gluten.

A Big Welcome From Bloom'en Nutrition

Hi!

I wanted to personally welcome you to Bloom’en Nutrition. My name is Rebecca and I’m the founder and mother of Bloom’en Nutrition, not to mention the proud mommy of Ella, my 18 month old daughter whose pregnancy inspired this very company.

We believe Bloom’en has a developed a fresh approach to nutrition by making dietary supplements for women, by women, that are efficious and take into consideration a women’s sensibilities. I’ve worked in the dietary supplement industry for over 10 years but it wasn’t until I was pregnant with Ella that I realized there was a need no one was addressing, the delivery form of prenatal vitamins. When your pregnant you are often queasy, your gag reflex is heightened, your appetite is unpredictable, yet you are expected to swallow pills 10 times the size of an aspirin - YIKES.

I personally experienced this very issue, along with a big dose of guilt. I worked in the dietary supplement industry. I knew how important prenatal vitamins were to the development of my baby yet I couldn’t swallow those huge pills and then, when I did, they’d often make me feel worse or in the case of fish oils (EPA/DHA) I’d burp them up the rest of the day, YUCK! It was a nightmare!!

After lamenting (well, complaining) one too many times, my husband inspired me, ”Rebecca, you have the contacts, the tools and the technology you need to create a product that addresses these issues, quit complaining and make the prenatal vitamin you need. If you need it other women do too!” So, here we are with our first product - Citrus Ginger Bloosoms. This product focuses on those nutrients that are most important while pregnant: Folic Acid, EPA/DHA, Vitamin D3 and Lutein (but you don’t have to be pregnant to enjoy Bloosom’s, hese nutrients are good for all women no matter their life stage). You can learn more about these essential nutrients and Bloossom’s product on our website, www.bloomennutrition.com.

I’ve enjoyed posting my first blog! I’m sure there will be many more to come as I chronicle my experiences with the birth of Bloom’en Nutrition. If you happen to be Natural Products Expo West next week in Anaheim please stop by and visit us at booth 2593. It is our first trade show so we’ve been frantic trying to get everything prepared for what is basically our coming out party. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Choosing the Right Prenatal Vitamin When Pregnant

For most women, pregnancy can be very overwhelming. Not only is your body going through tremendous change, but now you must face a multitude of new decisions and wade through the overwhelming pressure that society places on expecting mothers. One of those critical decisions is how to ensure that the growing baby will get the nutrients that it needs to be born healthy; and by extension, which prenatal vitamins to take.

For many women, choosing a prenatal is simply filling the prescription that their doctor gave them, but for those that take the time looking at the various types of prenatal vitamins available, the choices can be intimidating. So the question remains, how do you choose and what do you look for.

In choosing a prenatal vitamin, the first thing that you need to look for is the folic acid content of the product. The Centers for Disease Control recommends that all women of child bearing age take at least 200 micrograms of folic acid every day. For expecting mothers, those numbers go up. Fortunately, higher potency prentals can provide up to 1000 micrograms of folate in the form of folic acid. In addition to folic acid, your prenatal vitamin should contain vitamin D, biotin and associated B vitamins as well as calcium for both mom and baby.

When making your selection, take some time to look at the label, and make an effort to choose a quality product. You don’t need to fill a prescription to take a prenatal vitamin and there are many high quality products on the drugstore shelf. Beware however, that in the vitamin industry you get what you pay for. Avoid spending money on vitamins that are extremely inexpensive. Often their dosage levels of nutrients are sub-par and there have been instances where the actual pills don’t have as much folic acid, vitamin D or calcium as is listed on the label. Your best bet in choosing a prenatal is to choose a vitamin made by a company that specializes in either prenatals or women’s health.

If you have trouble swallowing pills, alternative dosage forms such as liquids or chews are available as well. It all depends on what you can tolerate during morning sickness and what best suits your needs as you grow this new life.
